Rail EXPO 2018 is a dialogue between business and government

The railway industry needs revolutionary reforms. The main thesis of the forum is the need of liberalization of the railway market. Market participants are urging for legal basis that will ensure the sustainable development of the railway industry in Ukraine.

Clear rules and fair competition on the railways will help attract investment, and hence boost innovations and industrial revolution in Ukraine. All these issues and many others were touched not only by business representatives, but also by lawmakers and government officials at the exhibition Rail EXPO 2018.

Volodymyr Omelian, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine:

It is only the competition in transport that is rational and viable in economic sense. The Agreement on the Association of Ukraine with the EU defined three areas: the separation of the infrastructure operator from transportation activities, opening of the market and liberalization of rail services, ensuring interoperability and technical harmonization for the development of the integrated railway system and the railway European space.
Fair competition between all market participants, transparent tariffs for services of infrastructure, economic fairness of rail transportation, deriving the maximum use of the existing infrastructure are among direct requirements of the EU directives that Ukraine has to implement and perform. Society is waiting for stable and fast responses to its needs.

Yaroslav Dubnevych, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport:

Strategic solutions can now improve the state of rail transport, load capacities of domestic enterprises, update infrastructure and rolling stock, stimulate business processes and spur the economy. One of the main tasks is to create the legal basis for a competitive secure transport system in Ukraine. This will definitely lead to an innovative upgrade of both infrastructure and rolling stock.
I am sure that the meeting at this forum resulting in cooperation between Ukrainian manufacturers and enterprises of railway engineering from one side and the Ministry of Infrastructure together with the legislative branch of power and Ukrzaliznytsia from the other side will contribute to development of the railway industry.

Hennadii Chyzhykov, president of Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry:

Rail Expo discovers our railways opportunities. Our transport sector needs to speed up by taking the decisions faster and enabling Ukrainian business to move forward.

Rail EXPO 2018 is awarding the best

Ukrainian Rail Award for projects that had the greatest impact on the Ukraine’s railway industry.

The Industrial Group UPEC won the Ukrainian Rail Award in the nomination “Project of the Year” for the project “Development and production of innovative TBU 1520 cassette bearings for high capacity bulk carriages”.

The group of companies TIS won the Rail Expo Award for the project “Launch of regular container trains from/to the port of Yuzhny”.
Regular container trains are running from TIS to Kiev, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Ternopil on a weekly basis. This allows to increase the volume and speed of transportation of container cargoes and to ease the load in truck roads at a time. For the past two years, TIS has been paying much attention to the development of rail infrastructure and container transport.

PJSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” won the Rail Expo Award for the project “Launching a new Beskidy Tunnel”, which is of strategic importance to Ukraine, since more than 40% of transit cargoes are transported along the route to the western border of the country. The newly built Beskidy Tunnel eliminated the only narrow sector V of the Crete International Transport Corridor which runs through Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and further to the east.
